History and mission

The British Council is the United Kingdom's international cultural relations organisation founded in 1934.  We have offices in 233 towns and cities in 109 countries worldwide.  We started our work here in Hong Kong in 1948.

The work of the British Council includes teaching English; providing the latest information about the UK; promoting British education and training; working closely with governments on reform and good governance and demonstrating the innovation, creativity and excellence of British science, arts, literature and design.
