Responses to violence in everyday life in democratic society: Approaches to promoting social and emotional learning for pupils in schools

Do you want to promote social and emotional learning, improve behaviour and reduce violence and conflict in everyday life?
Are you interested in attending a European workshop in the UK from 1–5 December 2008?

Eight participants will be selected from Greece.

Deadline for submission of applications: 20 October 2008.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?
Teachers, teacher trainers, head teachers and their deputies, curriculum leaders, behaviour co-ordinators, representatives of non-governmental organisations active in working to reduce violence and promote social and emotional learning.

Please note that the workshop will be conducted in English.

WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF THE WORKSHOP?

To explore the key issues relating to violence in schools and in the wider community
To look at some of the research on what works in helping children and young people to develop the social and emotional skills that promote positive behaviour and reduce violence
To explore an approach to social and emotional learning being developed in primary and secondary schools throughout England
To examine some pupil-led interventions that promote violence reduction and the development of positive skills
To consider a range of school-based approaches to conflict resolution, bullying and challenging behaviour.
