Road to IELTS Online is a self-study IELTS preparation course produced by the British Council to help candidates prepare for the IELTS exam. After registering for the exam, you will have access to three units, each based on common IELTS topics and covering all four sections of the exam: reading, listening, writing and speaking.
The course allows you to:
practise IELTS listening tasks under timed conditions
watch videos of sample speaking tests, highlighting good and less good practice
develop vocabulary and techniques for writing tasks 1 and 2
work on authentic texts for the reading test as in the real exam
increase your vocabulary in topic areas commonly covered in the IELTS exam.

When your payment for the IELTS test is confirmed, you will receive two access codes to log in to the course.
Please note: We are currently changing access to the online system. There are two different ways to access the material depending on the type of access data you receive:
- If you received your access data as a 12-digit Login ID and Password (e.g. 1280-8666-1111 and Password 5B847524), go to the log on screen here:

Enter your Login ID (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx) and Password as specified in your confirmation e-mail.
On the first screen, enter your full name, create a new password, enter your e-mail address, select the date of your IELTS test and then click the ‘Submit’ button.
You will then be able to access the materials and work through the lessons. Your logon details will automatically give you access to the materials for the test module you have chosen (Academic or General Training). You can also exit the system and log back on afterwards as many times as you wish.
Please note that when trying to access the system after you have logged out, you will have to enter your Login ID (the 12-digit access code) and the new password you created. Your logon details are for your personal use only and will expire one week after your test date.
If you forget your password, go to the log on screen above, click on the ‘Forgot your password?’ link and your password will be sent to you by e-mail.
- If you received your access data as an IELTS Reference Number (e.g. GR708-934-5122) in combination with your own e-mail address, go to the log on screen here:
