Documentary and Disability, 2nd International Festival

The 2nd Emotion Pictures International Documentary Festival on Disability aims to use documentary as a medium to bring to prominence the concerns of artists from all over the world on disability issues, and to encourage public awareness and debate using the common language of art as the starting point. It is a non-profit event and admission is free.

Last year's festival attracted 350 applications from 38 countries, of which 40 were chosen, and over 3,000 visitors, proving that Greek audiences are receptive to arts events that have a strong social dimension. Among the attendees were the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr Karolos Papoulias, British artist Alison Lapper, American Paralympic champion Aimee Mullins, and French documentary director and writer Jean-Marie Drot.

This year's festival promises a rich and varied programme of films from every corner of the globe in both the 'In competition' and 'Out of Competion' sections, and an impressive line-up of Greek and international guest speakers who will talk on diversity issues.

The festival is an initiative of Mr Theodoros Roussopoulos, Minister of State and Government Spokesman, and is being organised by the General Secretariat of Communication – General Secretariat of Information in collaboration with the Greek Film Centre, with the support of the British Council. It will take place in parallel with the 3rd International Conference People with Disabilities and the Mass Media (23–24 June 2008).

We invite you, therefore, to warmly embrace the 2nd Emotion Pictures Festival – make a date for you diary!
