We are proud to support the dance theatre production Electra Perpetrator and invite you to a ground-breaking modern interpretation of the classical myth of Electra by renowned Greek choreographer Sofia Spyratou and internationally acclaimed UK composer Michael Nyman.
After highly successful shows at the Benaki Museum in the spring of 2008, Electra Perpetrator returns to Athens featuring a bigger cast of actors and dancers, as well as composer Michael Nyman and his band performing the score live for the first time.
In Electra Perpetrator the Euripides tragedy unfolds in an inspired performance that combines dance and theatre with video screenings and music. Played against a white canvas setting that stresses the timelessness of the story, it offers a study of the complex relations of power, passion and hatred as they develop between Orestes, Electra and Clytemnestra.
The choreographer uses a number of pieces from Michael Nyman's body of work (The Piano, Gattaca), while two original pieces by Nyman, as well as the production's full score, are performed live on stage for the first time by the composer himself and the Michael Nyman Band.
Electra Perpetrator won 1st prize at the Bospor Agons International Theatre Competition in June 2008 and officially represented Greece as the closing act at the SIDance International Dance Festival in Seoul in October 2008.
Electra Perpetrator is performed by Sofia Spyratou’s Roes Dance Theater.
