CANDOCO DANCE COMPANY

One of the leading companies from the contemporary dance scene in Greece for the first time!

With the support of the British Council, the Arts Center at ACS presents, for the first time in Greece, CandoCo, the world's most famous integrated dance company of disabled and non-disabled performers.

Founded in 1991 by Celeste Dandeker and Adam Benjamin, the company developed from workshops and grew quickly into the first company of its kind in the UK – a professional dance company specialising in the integration of disabled and non-disabled dancers. The company’s repertoire shows people what can be accomplished and its education work invites them in to accomplish it themselves. This has proved a compelling combination.

The 2005–06 programme features two great new works:

THE JOURNEY
In a fast and furious pilgrimage through the emotions, the driving internal momentum in The Journey is matched by the exhilarating performances of CandoCo’s dancers. Impulses of abandonment are punctuated with moments of reflection, all intimately entwined with the rhythmic score of composer, Ben Park. A complex and arresting journey of discovery.

IN PRAISE OF FOLLY
Choreographed by Athina Vahla, In Praise of Folly is a rich and evocative piece of dance theatre, inspired by the intrigues of Renaissance art. The piece is pervaded by a powerful sense of beauty, coupled with the constant potential for destruction. Dark and intimate imagery, haunting movements and disquieting music make for an atmospheric performance.
