Introductory Week-Edinburgh

Introduction to the Programme
Team building and leadership skills
Seminar on governance and accountability
Visits to law courts and Scottish Parliament.

Tailor-made seminar course at a Scottish university.

A two-week seminar series on democracy, good governance and civil society organised by the University of Global Partners & Associates.

An introduction to the political process in a mature democracy, consisting of a series of discussions and meetings with senior academics and practitioners combined with visits to illustrate how public policy is made and developed (seeing at first hand the work of community groups, local service providers, trade unions and local authorities).

Weekend Retreat: The Leadership Trust Foundation, Ross-on-Wye

A weekend conference on the role of the media in a democracy; providing an opportunity to explore issues of mutual interest and concern with invited guests from the UK .

Individual Work Attachments

Two weeks of placements to one or more organisations including local government or civil society organisations. Opportunities may also arise to shadow politicians.

Final Week and Reports

Seminars on business ethics, visits to the House of Commons and other institutions.

A concluding seminar during which Fellows present group reports on their experience and action plans.

Fellows are expected to produce a personal plan of action to be carried out when they return home. In the following year, a follow-up conference in one of the Fellowship countries brings all Fellows together to report on their activities and compare progress.
