Rod Pryde OBE    

Director, British Council, India    

Rod Pryde is the British Council’s Director India and Sri Lanka. Rod began his tenure on 4 July 2005. Prior to taking up his responsibilities in India, Rod was the Assistant Director-General for the British Council at its headquarters in London.

Rod studied at George Watson’s College in Edinburgh, the University of Sussex, the University of North Wales and the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London. After working in industry and as a lecturer in English in France, he joined the British Council in 1981. His posts in the British Council have included Director of Studies, Milan, 1983–87; Regional Director in Andalucia, 1987–88 and in Bilbao, 1988–89; Director of British Council Kyoto and Western Japan, 1990–94; Director of the English Language Centre, Hong Kong, 1994–98; Director of British Council Portugal, 1998–2000 and Director of Educational Enterprises, 2000–02.

Rod contributed to session 1a - Education and economic development: engaging the new India and chaired session 8d - UKIERI: why grow international education partnerships with India.
