Climate change is already making its impact felt in different places across the globe. Top photographers from the Magnum Photographic Agency.went on location to see things for themselves and to bring us back their impressions in several series of captivating photos.
What is this exhibition about?
The exhibition, a partnership between The Climate Group and the British Council, shows real examples of the ways in which climate change is affecting our lives with images of extreme weather events; glaciers melting, poor urban air quality; environmental refugees; lack of drinking water; health risks and the impact on biodiversity. But NorthSouthEastWest also chronicles some of the solutions being put inplace to reduce carbon emissions such as a village in South Africa, Ecocity, which is experimenting with wind turbines, solar panels and solar cookers. The photos are accompanied by commentaries written by experts and leading personalities such as Kofi Annan and Leonardo DiCaprio.
ITINERARY OF THE EXHIBITION
This exhibition already toured the world in its English version, and visited Australia, Mexico, Portugal, Malaysia, Yemen, Canada, Russia, Slovenia, and so on, as part of a British Council campaign called ZeroCarbonCity. This global campaign aimed to raise awareness and stimulate debate around greenhouse gas emissions, climate change and the energy challenges facing the world’s largest cities.
Thanks to the generous support provided by the bank HSBC France, a French version of the exhibition has been on tour in France since August 2006. Thanks to our partner ABRET, it is now shown in different towns in French Brittany, where the tour will end in November 2009.
