Our methodology

Adult Courses

Our aim for all our courses is to help you use English more effectively. Our syllabus and aims based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages reflected in "can do" statements for your language ability. The course themselves involve a course book around which your teacher will supplement with other materials. We use a variety of teaching techniques such as role-plays, quizzes, discussion and simulations to make your classes more enjoyable and varied. Your teacher will inform you of the learning aims of each activity you do in class in order to understand what we are doing and why. We also encourage systematic reflection on learning and self-assessment.

We help you learn grammar and vocabulary as these are the building blocks of language. However, we also aim to give you as many opportunities as possible to use the language to help you speak more fluently and communicate with confidence. We also help you develop your reading, writing and listening skills. Reading and writing are also effective ways of revising language and extending and consolidating the range of your vocabulary.

YOUNG LEARNER COURSES

Our philosophy

We are committed to providing students with a structured English language learning career that will support each child in the process of reaching their full potential in a stimulating, rewarding and safe environment.

Our approach

We use a variety of materials and techniques which are appropriate to the age and level of our students. We encourage our students to develop fluency and accuracy in both speaking and writing. Students’ progress is evaluated twice a year. Parents receive a guide at registration which contains more information about our methodology.

We teach English as a European language in two sections :

ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE SECTION

PRIMARY

Our approach concerns itself with the all-round development of children by building on their ability to communicate in English.  We introduce children to the culture and literature of the English-speaking world through songs, rhymes and chants, stories, games, pair and group work activities and technology such as videos/DVDs and computers.

SECONDARY

We develop listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as expanding grammar and vocabulary.  We use a balance of techniques that involve Computer Assisted Language Learning, video/DVD, project work, language games, and pair or group work.

BILINGUAL SECTION

PRIMARY

Classes for primary pupils are based around a course book which provides topics of interest and a motivating context to develop their oral and literacy skills. Classes develop children’s literacy by incorporating aspects from the National Literacy Strategy Framework at word, sentence and text level.

SECONDARY

Classes for secondary pupils are based around a course book, authentic literature and the National Literacy Strategy Framework.
