GRADUATE TEACHER PROGRAMME
Our Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) is a unique and innovative teacher training initiative for modern languages, aimed at native French speakers.
In collaboration with European partners, the British Council in London and CILT, the National Centre for Languages in the United Kingdom, are recruiting university graduates (holders of at least a licence) who are native speakers of French, to train to become qualified teachers of languages in schools in England. Successful candidates are employed by a training school; ‘on the job’ training is carried out over the course of a school year alongside other professional duties in school.

TEACH AT A PRIVATE SCHOOL OR COLLEGE OF FURTHER EDUCATION
Most private (or 'independent') primary or secondary schools and colleges of further education require their teachers to have QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). If you wish to work in an independent school, you need to apply to the school directly. Most independent schools belong to the Independent Schools Council Information Service ( ISC) and many independent colleges to the Conference for Independent Further Education ( CIFE).
TEACH IN FURTHER EDUCATION COLLEGES
You can apply for a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE - post 16). However, it is not always necessary to be qualified in order to teach at a college of further education. Posts are limited but are usually advertised in the weekly Times Education Supplement or in local newspapers.
TEACH IN UNIVERSITIES
It is not usually necessary for university teachers to have a teaching qualification. Most teachers at this level are highly qualified and apply directly to the university for vacant posts which are advertised in the weekly Times Higher Education Supplement.
