ICT in Education

  • eTwinning Software and Tools Site: A comprehensive guide to the ICT tools you can use in your eTwinning projects and practical examples of how to use them.
  • British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (BECTA): Extensive guide on the use of ICT in education.
  • BBC Video Nation: Advice on how video and photographic equipment can be used to good effect in schools.
  • Audacity: Free software download enabling you to record mp3 files and share them with partner schools.
  • Skype: Use Skype to make free calls to your partner school anywhere in the world. Voice over IP system.
  • Moodle: This is a open source Virtual Learning Environment and is used by some schools. It is free but requires some technical expertise to set it up. Worth a look.
  • MFLE: Brilliant site aimed at modern foreign language teachers. Includes a selection of creative teaching guides on blogging, podcasting and more.
  • Animation for Education: A fun, hands on, creative way to get started with animation in education. Great for Art Teachers, media studies and ICT managers and coordinators.
  • Making the News: A free online publishing system for schools hosted by the National Education Network.
  • Flashmeeting: An easy to use, secure platform for video chat and video conferencing.
  • PodOmatic: Create, Find, Share podcasts.

International Dimension in Education

  • Comenius: Part of the Lifelong Learning Programme, Comenius provides a range of funded opportunities for schools and colleges to introduce or add value to the European dimension in their curriculum.  
  • British Council Schools Online: British Council Schools Online includes a worldwide partner-finding database for schools, colleges and local authorities looking for any kind of link.  You can also find out about The International School Award accreditation framework, access online forums and project spaces and professional development resources.  Once you register your school, there is a partner finding team at the British Council who will work with you to help match you to suitable schools.   • Lifelong Learning Programme - eTwinning is a part of this.
  • International School Award: Accreditation for good practice in embedding the international dimension in schools.

e-Safety

  • Think U Know: Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) site that gives practical advice for teachers, trainers, parents and children about getting the most out of the internet whilst staying safe.
  • Becta - Safeguard Learners Online: BECTA’s advice for schools on how to keep learners safe in an online environment.
