Climate change is one of the greatest social, economic, political and environmental challenges facing our generation. The debate around climate actions is a strategic objective of the British Council where it seeks to achieve a faster transition to sustainable, low carbon economies.
Our Climate Change Programme is made up of a series of projects which focus on different parts of society, on differing communities, in order to provide an understanding of climate change throughout society, not just within the scientific and political communities.
After understanding comes action and our Climate Change Programme aims to give a wide variety of people the encouragement and the tools to take action against climate change.
Using the British Council’s strengths of establishing understanding and trust through careful cultural relations our Climate Change Programme aims to build understanding of climate change amongst the public and, even more importantly, build a desire to do something about it.
Youth And Climate changeThis network is aimed at driving awareness and action amongst young people who are committed and passionate about environmental issues. The aim is to bring such people together on a common forum and further propogate climate change awareness, mitigation and adaptation measures.
International Climate Champions ProgrammeThis initiative uses various forms of visual media to communicate the message of climate change. Some of the initiatives are:
UK Environment Film Fellowships (UKEFF)The United Kingdom’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities.
