Designer Babies: Medical Miracle or Moral Disaster?

Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis allows the selection of embryos. Initially, this was to avoid genetic disease. Now, PGD is used on other grounds. How far could this technology go? Would it be wrong to select the sex of your child? Are critics right to worry about 'designer babies'?

Come and join the discussion with Tom Shakespeare, a renowned social scientist and ethicist at the University of Newcastle. He has published six books, most recently 'Genetic Politics: from eugenics to genome'. He will explain the science of PGD and discuss some of the social and ethical questions the technology raises.

On 31 August at 5.00 p.m. in Kloostri Ait, Tallinn
