Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to your questions

WHY CHOOSE A BRITISH COUNCIL COURSE?

As the UK's international organisation for educational and cultural relations, British Council is able to create unparalleled opportunities in English language learning and cultural exchange.

Our centres in Rabat and Casablanca can offer you and your family a wide range of courses which will help you improve your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills as well as your grammar.

WHAT TEACHING METHODS DO YOU USE?

British Council teachers are trained to follow a communicative approach to language teaching and learning.  This involves pair work, group work and project work, and promotes ‘learning through doing’.

Our teachers use modern methods and textbooks based on interesting topics as well as a range of computer and video based materials.

Could I be reimbursed?

The British Council will give a refund if:

  • We cannot open a class for you.
  • You tell us that you cannot attend a course before it begins.
  • You ask for a refund within two weeks of the course’s start date, and you have not attended any classes.

The British Council will also give a refund on the registration fee if we place you at a level for which there is no class.

The British Council will not give a refund:

  • If you have attended one class.
  • On course books once bought.
  • On the placement test fee

If you feel that you should be given a refund in other circumstances (for example, case of serious illness) you can apply for a refund in writing to the Teaching Centre Manager. You should include a letter and documentation to support your claim. The Manager will then decide whether a refund should be granted on a case by case basis.  The manager’s decision is final

There is an administration fee of Dhs 200 for refunds. The British Council reserves the right to enforce this at its discretion.

Do I have to do a placement test?
All new customers need to call us and book a time to take a placement test. This takes approximately 60 minutes. You will also have to pay a registration fee of 200 dh which is non refundable.
Do I need to buy books?
Each student has to buy a course book but you will receive a free British Council notebook.
How do I know what progress I am making?
Each term you will get Learning Aims to help you see and record what you are studying.  In addition, each term you will receive counselling from your teacher, when they give you feedback on your progress.
What do I get at the end of the course?
Every student receives a certificate or letter to show their attendance and achievement during the term.
How can I find out about my child’s progress and your teaching methods?

There are several ways to find out about your child’s progress and our teaching methods:

At the end of each term all students receive a certificate with details of their progress during the course.
At the end of the term, parents of young learners have the opportunity to meet with the class teachers.
You have the opportunity to attend parent workshops during the year, which help you to gain a clearer picture of our work, and pick up practical ideas about how you can help and support your child.
