Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Awards
Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Awards (DHPA) is a UK scheme to bring outstanding students from the developing world to come and study for PhDs in top rated UK research facilities. The initiative was launched by the Prime Minister In November 2003.
The scheme is open to top quality science, engineering, medicine, social science and technology students from overseas to study for PhDs over a period of three to four years, at an average annual cost per student of £30,000 (each DHPA is valued at £90,000) primarily to cover fees and maintenance.
Students wishing to be considered for DHPAs should apply to the universities directly. Core DHPAs are only available at the listed universities. Students may apply to more than one of the listed universities. There is no standard application form (or deadline for applications) as recruitment/selection procedures will vary from university to university. However, in general, most universities will expect students to apply for (and subsequently secure) a PhD place at the university, before being considered for DHPA funding. Only students embarking on PhD studies, or equivalent doctoral studies, (and not MA or MSc courses, for example) are eligible to apply for a DHPA.
