Cafe Scientifique in English: We are all Mutants

With the valuable cooperation of the Danish Cafe Scientifique network we arranged the first in an occasional series of cafes to which we invite British experts. On this first occasion we brought to Denmark Armand Leroi from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London. Armand Leroi, described in The Times as one of "the brightest stars in (British) medical sciences' who are 'fresh, smart and going to change our world", is an expert on mutations. His book 'Mutants' was awarded the 2004 the Guardian First Book Award and he has introduced a television series in the United Kingdom on this topic.

DNA and tackling crime
Our second cafe took place on 11 April 2005, where the topic will focussed on DNA databases and their use, particularly in forensic science. The British expert on the panel was Dr Bob Bramley who is the Custodian of the UK National DNA Database and was until recently Chief Scientist at the British Forensic Science Service. The other experts were Bo Tao Michaelis, man of letters and an expert on crime fiction and Mikkel Holm Sørensen, techno-philosopher and the initiator of the Big Mother movement in Denmark. The venue for the cafe was again Kafkafeen, Skindergade 3, Copenhagen.
