What we do - Delphe

WHAT WE DO

The programme is based on a partnership between the British Council, Department for International Development (DFID), and the participating institutions. The British Council is responsible for the management and delivery of DelPHE. The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is responsible for an element of programme delivery in supporting South-South (developing - developing) partnerships and liaising with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission and other external bodies.

DFID provides core grant funding and UK staff costs for small management teams in the British Council and the ACU. The British Council provides overseas staff costs and use of facilities while the participating institutions provide staff time and use of facilities.

Over the five years of DelPHE's call for applications, the Association of Commonwealth Universities has played a brokering and mentoring role, as well as disseminating project outcomes. One of their principal aims has been to support South-South applications to DelPHE, through helping partners to find each other, and to advise on application processes and on draft applications.

Since the last call for submissions was completed, the ACU has continued to work with the British Council in a monitoring and evaluation capacity. They are producing a report on South-South DelPHE applicants’ experiences in partnership building, and will be working with the British Council in an in-depth study of projects in a range of focus countries, commencing in late 2011.

Applications are assessed and approved by the DelPHE Selection Committee which comprises members of DFID, Universities UK and the British Council.
