Years of war badly affected universities in Iraq, leaving them under-resourced and isolated from the global academic community. But Iraq's universities are now able to open their doors again.
The DelPHE-Iraq programme brings Iraqi universities together with universities in the United Kingdom to strengthen Iraq's higher education system and equip talented Iraqi students with the skills they need to rebuild their country.
DelPHE Iraq is part of the DelPHE programme (Development Partnerships in Higher Education), which is funded by the UK government’s Department for International Development (DfID) and managed by the British Council.
DelPHE and DelPHE-Iraq partnerships are both working towards building capacity within higher education institutions, but the two programmes are quite distinct.
DelPHE projects, which take place in Africa and Asia, are closely linked to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and enable universities to act as vehicles for reducing poverty and encouraging sustainable development.
DelPHE-Iraq projects are not linked to the UN Millennium Development Goals, but work to strengthen capacity within the Iraqi higher education system and contribute to the country’s development by:
WHAT ARE DELPHE-IRAQ PARTNERSHIPS WORKING TO ACHIEVE?
DelPHE-Iraq reconnects Iraqi higher education institutions with their counterparts around the world so that they can share skills, knowledge and ideas, for example:
Partner universities work together to update and improve teaching, learning and research within the Iraqi higher education system, drawing upon the experience of higher education institutions from outside of Iraq.
