This page provides a range of useful links to potential alternative sources of funding. The list is a small example of what's available and is by no means exhaustive. We aim to refresh this page with new links and information on a regular basis.

Arrow, 9x9, purple    The ACP Science and Technology Programme is an ACP-EU co-operation programme in the field of science and technology.

Arrow, 9x9, purple    AFRICAN COMMUNITY ACCESS PROGRAMME (AFCAP) is a poverty-targeted transport initiative that will operate in Sub-Saharan African countries and aims to improve the sustainable access of poor women and men in rural communities to social and economic opportunities. The programme identifies and supports the uptake of low-cost, proven solutions for rural access that maximise the use of local resources (labour, materials, enterprise, and ingenuity).

Arrow, 9x9, purple    African Development Foundation provides small grants to private and other NGOs in 16 African countries.

Arrow, 9x9, purple   The Association of Commonwealth Universities is the world’s oldest inter-university network, with over 500 members in 37 countries.  Its mission is to strengthen the higher education institutions within its membership through international cooperation and understanding, and it is well positioned to enable new partnerships, facilitate the sharing of good practice, and help generate new opportunities for collaboration.

Arrow, 9x9, purple    The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) provides grants to enable conservation action and build capacity for sustainability in biodiversity hotspots, the Earth’s biologically richest and most endangered regions.

Arrow, 9x9, purple    DFID's funding pages provide detail of a variety of other funds for smaller scale initiatives. These are aimed at promoting sustainable development and eliminating poverty.

Arrow, 9x9, purple    DFID - ESRC joint scheme. Provides £13 million in research grants which aims to fund world class scientific research on issues relating to economic development and quality of life in less developed countries with the potential for impact on policy and practice for poverty reduction. Applications are invitied from researchers based in recognised HEIs, research bodies or organisations with a credible research capacity in both the UK, and worldwide.

Arrow, 9x9, purple    The Higher Education Links Programme is a partnership between the HE Commission of Pakistan and British Council Pakistan. The purpose of the programme is to enhance the research and training capacity of HEIs, which will contribute towards the institutional capacity building of the HE sector in Pakistan.

Arrow, 9x9, purple    Network UK has a researchers’ mobility portal with a funding search facility, links to research and higher education councils, charitable organisations, learned academies and international funding bodies.

Arrow, 9x9, purple    Programmes in Commonwealth Countries Funds are available from the British Academy to support joint projects between UK-based academics and those based in Commonwealth institutions. The scheme is administered in partnership with the Association of Commonwealth Universities

Arrow, 9x9, purple    Southern Africa Trust is an independent, southern African regional non-profit agency providing technical and financial resources to creative organisations and processes that amplify the voices of the poor excluded in regional policy dialogue.

Arrow, 9x9, purple    TrustAfrica provides African organizations with funding for partnerships that address the continent challenges. African thinkers set their own agendas by outlining priorities and setting strategies for development.  

Arrow, 9x9, purple    The UN Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's largest provider of grants for sustainable human development worldwide. The network links and coordinates global and national efforts to reach the Millennium Development Goals.
