Climate Change Conferences    

The British Embassy & the British Council organised three Climate Change Conferences in the Czech Republic:

In March 2008, the British Embassy and the British Council in co-operation with other partners organised three climate change conferences in Pilsen, Ostrava and Brno.

PILSEN CONFERENCE

The conference took place in Pilsen on 12 March 2008.

"CO2 Vy na to?" competition winner was announced during this conference.   

Winners:

1. prize: Vít Skřebský, Michal Vrchota, Kateřina Husová, Tomáš Kliegr: Ecological Campus (60,000 Kč)
The project “Ecological Campus“ at the University of Economics is focused on energy savings in three fields: waste sorting, both-side printing and purchase of energy efficient appliances. Despite low investment costs the project has a high potential to decrease CO2 emissions. An important result is raised eco-awareness of students, who are expected to take up leading positions in business and state authorities.
   
2. prize: Renata Vail: Leave him at home (50,000 Kč)
The project is a two-week competition for employees to use their cars as little as possible and take advantage of other modes of transportation. Participants will realize how they move, to what extent and for what tasks they use their cars and how they can minimize their car use. Participants keep a travel diary. At the end, the car kilometres saved and respective CO2 emissions saved are calculated.
   
3. prize: Jan Skalík, Josef Kvasničák, Veronika Fišerová: Is CO2 guilty? (40,000 Kč)
In the effort of climate change mitigations, it is more important to change thinking of people than exceptional technical solutions. Our project proves it that by info-campaign based on city educational trail, focused to scientific and political aspects of the topic and possibilities of individual steps to lower emissions. Project also consists of seminars at Grammar Schools and integrating web page.
   

About the competition

"CO2 Vy na to?" competition started in the beginning of 2008 and it was a project of the British Council and its partner, Nadace Partnerství. We have received 22 projects during two months. The competition was aimed at young people of between the ages 20–35. Their task was to suggest a measure which will decrease CO2 emissions in their company, office, school or home. Read more.
