The British Council, in association with the awarding bodies in the UK and with MINCEX in Cuba, promotes a number of scholarships for teachers of English in Cuba. These opportunities include the Hornby Trust MA Scholarship, awards from the Institute of Applied Language Studies of the University of Edinburgh, and the Frank Bell scholarship offered by Bell Schools every two years. Every two years the Bell Schools in the UK offer one Frank Bell scholarship to a Cuban teacher to attend the Summer School - a several weeks programme for English teachers that gives teachers and trainers the opportunities to gain experiences from good quality courses concerned with the Teaching of English Language.
The Institute for Applied Language Studies (IALS) at Edinburgh University offers a number of scholarships for Cuban teachers of English, over a six week period in July/August. The British Council promotes these awards in association with MINCEX in Cuba, and pays for the travel expenses of the successful candidates.
