TRIBUTE TO MIKE LEIGH, INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF NEW LATIN AMERICAN CINEMA, 4-10 DEC
The British Council is delighted to work with the 30th Latin American Film Festival to present a retrospective of the films of British film director Mike Leigh. Mkei's films capture the tragic-comical existence of ordinary peoples ordinary lives and show that they are far from ordinary. Starting with his first film, BLEAK MOMENTS made in 1971, the tribute will also include his most recent film HAPPY-GO-LUCKY. Mike Leigh will visit the festival to present his films and meet other filmmakers.

In addition, the British Council will also co-present the Anglo-Polish film PETER AND THE WOLF directed by Susie Templeton with extraordinary animation from Poland. A fantastic animated tale set to the music of the same name by Prokofiev. To be screened at Cine 23 y 12, dates to be confirmed.
Other British films in the Festival are THE FEVER (UK/2004), directed by Carlo Gabriel Nero, with Vanessa Redgrave, and COURTING CONDI (UK/USA/2008), directed by Sebastian Doggart. COURTING CONDI will be screened on 9 December at 10:00am, Cine 23 y 12 and on 11 December, 5:30pm, Cine Infanta.
EUROPEAN CONCERT BY ARS LONGA ON 20 NOVEMBER AT BASILICA MENOR, CONVENTO SAN FRANCISCO DE ASIS
European concert by Ars Longa, the most important Cuban ensemble of medieval, Rennaissance and Baroque music, took place last 20 November at Basilica Menor, Convento San Francisco de Asis, with European pieces from XVI, XVII and XVIII centuries. The British contribution was by John Dowland, one of the earliest British composers, who was known for his melancholy and passionate songs that were composed to be sung and played on the lute.
