This site from Essex Libraries describes itself as being a mixture of the knowledge and enthusiasm of their staff and the recommendations of readers and reading groups. The site contains details of over 1600 books and nearly 3000 reviews and is well worth a look.

Top authors recommend their favourite books on a particular theme.

.   BBC Books Message Board
Join daily conversations in the UK's largest community. The Books Message Board can be found here under Culture. You need to register to add and reply to messages but you can view all the book related chat and suggestions from other readers.

.   BBC Big Read
The Lord Of The Rings is officially the UK's Best-Loved Book.

In April 2003 the BBC's Big Read began the search for the nation's best-loved novel and voting ended on 11 December 2003.

Three quarters of a million votes were received by the end of the series. JRR Tolkien's classic The Lord Of The Rings triumphed over its competitors with Pride And Prejudice coming in second.
