Comenius Multilateral Projects (not to be confused with Multilateral School Partnerships) are undertaken by consortia working together to improve the initial or in-service training of teachers and other professionals working in the field of school education.
Typical participating organisations include private companies, research centres, teacher training institutions, higher education institutions, local authorities, and schools (generally piloting materials).
Comenius Multilateral Projects do include project meetings, but project mobility is not the main focus of these partnerships.
Partner institutions exchange experiences and develop strategies to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom. These projects are expected to deliver concrete outcomes. There is more emphasis on end products and less on the learning process than in a School Partnership, for example.
Outcomes can include the development of new courses of study, new teaching methodologies and strategies, and new materials.
Comenius Networks represent as a minimum organisations from ten countries. Each network concentrates on a particular subject or thematic area.
Comenius Networks provide a platform to exchange experience and best practice. They bring together relevant expertise in Europe with the aim of establishing sustainable links between these different groups. Networks also provide support to Comenius partnerships and projects working in the same thematic area.
