The creative industries make up the fastest growing sector of the UK's economy. In economic terms they already outperform traditional sectors such as agriculture and car manufacturing.
The creative industries have been defined by the UK' s Department for Culture, Media and Sport as "those industries that are based on individual creativity, skill and talent. They are also those that have the potential to create wealth and jobs through developing intellectual property."
In 2002, Colombia was selected as the pilot project country for countries with transitional economies. A series of projects and initiatives with local partners were developed over a period until 2006, especially in the areas of networking, leadership development, creative education and enterprise.

The
British Council’s International Young Creative Entrepreneur (IYCE) awards were devised to celebrate the achievements and develop the potential of young creative entrepreneurs across the world. In Colombia this project has been developed together with the Ministry of Culture. This year three young professional Colombians were selected to represent their country. They are: Alejandro Ramírez in music – who received a special commendation from the jury –; Gabriel Zapata in performing arts and Juan Pablo Fajardo in visual arts.
