What is TOLES?

TOLES means "Test of Legal English Skills". The TOLES examinations were developed to meet the demand from law firms, companies, legal institutions, lawyers and law students for an accurate method of assessing an individual's legal English.
TOLES has been developed by legal professionals with expertise in English language training. It is the result of extensive consultation with law firms and institutions and is regularly revised to reflect the on-going changes that occur within the legal profession   

THE NEW TOLES SERIES

Students and teachers of legal English can now benefit from the NEW TOLES exam series. Learners and teachers need support at all levels in the field of legal English, not just at the more advanced levels. Many lawyers and law students struggle with the complex, authentic language they are expected to cope with in advanced legal English examinations. We recognise the need for learners to build knowledge and confidence from the early stages of study. The NEW TOLES series provides the way for students to gain a qualification in legal English at every step of the way, from the first encounter with new vocabulary through to the understanding of a complex contract. There are 3 levels to the NEW TOLES exam series:



• TOLES Advanced
• TOLES Higher
• TOLES Foundation

Now EVERY student can feel confident that they can participate in the leading legal English exams with an achievable goal. The existing TOLES exams are the world’s market leaders in legal English exams and are highly respected by international law firms and the Law Society of England & Wales.
