Jiangsu English Language Improvement Project (JETIP)

A collaborative project to improve the standard of English teaching

JETIP is implemented by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education (JPDE) and our Shanghai office.  It started in 2002 and will finish in 2006 with a time span of five years. Its main objective is to improve the English language ability and teacher training skills of trainers in all-level teacher training institutions and provincial key middle school-based training institutions, and thus rapidly improve the quality of the training provided by those institutions.

The first batch of 45 ELT trainers/subject supervisors/key teachers from Jiangsu province has been selected and will be sent to the UK for training between August and October to enable them to play an exemplary and influential role in Jiangsu after their return.

The three selected UK training providers for JETIP are Bell International, the University of Durham Language Centre and Norwich Institute of Language Education.  In March 2003, a UK training co-ordination conference took place in Nanjing, to prepare teachers for JETIP summer training courses in the UK .
