2. Mishkin
Breathtaking, spine-tingling, awesome are three words that have most often been used to describe Mishkin and their live performances. They burst into their set with the power of an express train, only allowing you to catch your breath as they slow down for the intros to songs like ‘The Lesson’ and ‘Elevate’, then charge back off again leaving you gasping for air. The energy on stage from all five of them is electric.
Combining an eclectic variety of influences from all styles and genres ranging from old-school Rock and Metal to Funk and Acoustic grooves, five piece rock metal band Mishkin create their own style and sound, blending catchy, melodic hooks, well crafted songs, diverse and powerful vocals and expert musicianship.
They’ve been friends since school and Ben, Ali and Jimmy studied at Leeds College of Music. The band formed in 2003 and their following has continued to grow with enthusiastic crowds wherever they go. They are well known and loved in Leeds and their fan base is spreading throughout the country. They were winners in the 2006 Leeds Bright Young Things and also the 20202 Vision Music Video competition sponsored by Leeds Arts Stra.
Offstage Mishkin are the happiest, friendliest bunch of guys you could meet. Their music is heavy but their lyrics are about being positive, learning from your mistakes and getting on with your life. Music is all they think about and they just want to play. Says Vocalist Ben “We want everyone to enjoy our music and leave our gigs feeling energised. We’re not interested in angry attitude. Life’s too short for being negative. We’re just doing what we do and having a great time doing it.”
Excellent reviews of their gigs and their music predict a very bright future for MISHKIN. Their EP launch party in Leeds on the 20th November was packed to capacity by an ecstatic crowd. They are receiving regular air play on BBC radio channels and their video has been featured on SKY Music Channels.
The Midi Music Festival 2007 will run from May 1-4 in Beijing's Haidian Park. It’s the largest of its kind in China and this being the 8th event, it’s the longest-running rock festival in the country. From what started as an afternoon showcase of the Midi school's student bands it has become a four-day rock-fest drawing up to 50,000 fans plus bands from around the world.
The collective are:
Ben Davy, 22 – Vocals
Ali Epstone, 23 - Guitar, backing vocals
Jimmy MacGregor, 21 – Guitar
Mark Forster, 23 - Drums
Will MacGregor, 20 – Bass
On their return from Beijing they will begin a six month tour of the UK.
