China-UK Creative Entrepreneur Networking Event

With the launch of China-UK Creative Entrepreneur Network, the China-UK Creative Entrepreneur Networking event will be held in Hangzhou and Wuxi in early August for the first time. During this event three outstanding young creative entrepreneurs (CEs) from UK and East Asia will share their creative ideas and success stories with audiences, and discuss with Hangzhou CEs for the opportunities and challenges the small and medium creative enterprises are now facing.

<Hangzhou>
Date: 14:00-17:00, 4 August 2009 (Tue)           
Venue: Metoo Cafe, Silian 166 Creative Park (near Lianshui & Jinhua Road, Hangzhou)

<Wuxi>
Date: 14:00-17:00, 5 August 2009 (Wed)           
Venue: 2F meeting room, R&D Building, Wuxi (national) Industrial Design Park (100 Dicui Road)

This event mainly targets for arts CEs in creative industry but we also warmly welcome young people who want to become CE in future. If you would like to attend this event, please send you name, organization, mobile and note which session you want to attend to feifei.jiang@britishcouncil.org.cn by lunch time on 30 August. We will contact successful applicant via mail. Seats are limited. First come first serve.

Below is the introduction about three speakers:  

1. Vicky Brophy – UK, Animation
Head of Digital, Wonky Films

Vicky Brophy is the head of digital at Wonky Films, a collective of animators across broadcast (BBC roster), advertising and digital. Wonky Films are recognised for their innovative digital approach in developing new animated entertainment formats. Vicky has run digital events at international film festivals, presented animation work across Europe and written or contributed to articles on digital creativity. She was also a ‘young technology entrepreneur’ in the ‘Building Britain’s Future’ events. Vicky co-organised popular animation nights that showcase animation work to the South West, and tries to grow all these networks internationally.

2. Anna Hart – UK, Product design and manufacture

Anna graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University in 1999. After graduating, she joined Coexistence, developing her knowledge of the furniture market before moving to an interior design role for DEGW, London. She worked in lead design roles on a variety of workplace interior projects. Anna moved to Cornwall in 2004 and joined Absolute Design, a local practice, where she headed up the interiors team.

She finished some high profile projects such as Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen, Cornwall and The Hotel at Watergate Bay. Anna now runs her own interior design studio whilst working in partnership with John Miller (Director of Design at University College Falmouth) in developing a new furniture brand, MARK Product.

3. Ruttikorn Vuttikorn – Thailand, design
Design Director / R&D Manager, Club Creative
A British Council International Young Design Entrepreneur 2007 finalist

Ruttikorn Vuttikorn is a fanatic toy designer and a founder of two companies. One is Club Creative, which designs a wide range of toys and children’s products. Another company, Le Knot, designs, produces and sells toys under the Toy Wizard and Paper Wizard brands. Besides running the two companies, Ruttikorn has been working for charity organisations around the world to design toys for children with special needs and promoting quality play. The number of renowned toy design awards she has won indicates her expertise.

Moreover, the Museum of Childhood’s permanent collection at the V&A Museum, London chose one of her designs for display.
