What is Crossing Borders?
Crossing Borders is a literature project to promote interactive creative writing. It involves established writers (mentors) from the UK and aspiring writers in Cameroon. Crossing Borders is unique because most of the interaction takes place in cyberspace, with participants connecting with others and with their mentors through email, dedicated chat rooms and web journals.
Who is the project for?
If you write fiction, poetry, or drama, and you would like support for your creative writing given by experienced tutors, mentors and other writers, then this could be an interesting project. We welcome participants of any age and experience who want to develop their writing in new ways and can commit to a one year course.
It does not matter if you don't yet have access to the web. We can provide you with online access at our centres in Yaounde, Bamenda and Douala, which is also an opportunity for you to access other services of the British Council learning and Information Centre.
In Cameroon, the project started in April 2004, with 12 writers paired with established writers from the UK. We are taking in the second batch of 12 participants who will benefit from on-line training for the next twelve months.
What benefits are there?
By the end of the training period, participants would have explored a range of new reading, engaged closely with critical aspects of the writing process and developed a portfolio of new writing.
