“Dreams and Teams Bulgaria” is a young NGO established on 28 February 2008 by a group of enthusiastic young people. The aims of the organisation are: to form and develop leadership skills and tolerance toward differences in young Bulgarians; enhancing and supporting the civil initiative of young people for the development of civil society in Bulgaria ; and defending the rights of children and young people in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Bulgaria.
How does this happen in practice? Children in schools organise sports events for their younger school-mates. This is how young people’s organisational and leadership skills are developed while younger students have more fun at school.
The mission of the organisation continues and develops the eponymous programme of British Council that has been implemented in 32 countries. The creators of the organisation are part of the leadership team in Bulgaria which enhances the programme by setting an important social mission – to include children with and without disabilities at every stage of implementing the activities: in sports festivals and in their organisation. Part of the organisation’s team works in Varna where three schools have introduced as an optional subject ‘’Dreams and Teams’’.
The activities, which are implemented and supported by the organisation, include training of trainers, training of young leaders (secondary school students) and coordination and carrying out of festivals for children with and without disabilities. The team of the organisation initiates the setting-up of ‘’Dreams and Teams’’ clubs in schools No28, No73 и and the school for children with visual impairment „Louis Braille”, and coordinates and supports their activities. The future plans of ‘’Dreams and Teams Bulgaria’’ are to create similar clubs in other schools in Sofia and in Bulgaria.
