Diversity, including ethnic diversity, is a value and it deserves to be treated as such, particularly by the media. This means ethnic groups being present in newspapers, on the radio and television in their own right, beyond sensationalism and bias. The Roma people present beyond crimes and ethnic conflicts, Pomaks and ethnic Turks present beyond religious fanaticism and religious conversion, Macedonians present beyond a political context. Representatives of ethnic groups have the potential to appear more often in the media – as commentators of problems of their own community, but also in order to provide their expert opinion on other issues. Culture, traditions, the ‘value’ of ethnicities can be re-discovered by the media. Because if they are, people will re-discover them too.
