2006 HORNBY SUMMER SCHOOL BRAZIL

English as a Global Language:
Implications for Innovation in Teaching and Learning

This 10 day residential course happened in Sorocaba, state of SP, from January 8 to 18, 2006 and offered a group of 30 ELT professionals, from Brazil and other countries in the Latin America region, an opportunity to network and build stronger ties for the development in English Language Teaching.

This Hornby Summer School looked at the ways in which English is being used in the world today and examined the implications that this has for teachers and learners in schools, colleges and universities. The Hornby Summer School Brazil 2006 team consisted of:

Margit Szesztay (Hungary) - Course director
David Shepherd (UFF – Rio de Janeiro) - Tutor
Vanessa Andreotti (a Brazilian researcher based in UK) – Tutor
Sara Walker (Brasília) – Social director

CHECK IT OUT!

We created a space for ELT teachers to interact with those attending the course, other community members and share their views on ELT matters.

Our ELT Community site followed the whole program and created an open forum so people are able to keep in touch with the course participants and tutors and share ideas about the theme of this summer school.

The site also provides course materials via the forum and brings interviews and reports with the participants.

Make a note in your diary now for the next school in January 2007.
