Within the project, the director of the company “Science Made Simple”, Wendy Sadler, arrived in Baku on 10 November 2007 and ran workshops at Gafgaz University called “Music to Your Ears” for 200 students, attended workshop from local students of Baku, Khyrdalan, Sumgayit and Shemakha.
Following this, on 11 November 2007 on 15.00 and 19.00 the British theatre company “Science Made Simple” led “Visualise” show at the Azerbaijan State Theatre of the Musical Comedy.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
“Visualise” is one component of the “Beautiful Science” project and was implemented in Azerbaijan with collaboration of Gafgaz University and also with the support of the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan Republic. The project - linking science, education and the arts – ultimately seeks to inspire young people to consider careers in science and encourage young scientists to communicate with the wider public, in an open, comprehensive, inspired and interactive way.
“Science Made Simple” is a British science communication company that aims at sharing enthusiasm for science by offering a selection of inspirational and educational experiences that are tailor-made for schools and the public. It is touring with “Visualise” science and theatre show, that allows audiences to experience some of the world's most beautiful and emotive science demonstrations. The show combines physical theatre, live demonstrations, projected images and music to create a wordless experience of wonder.
“Beautiful Science” project is implemented by the British Council in 9 countries in the South East Europe region: Austria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Israel, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and the UK. The other two components of the project are:
Debates – a series of intercultural dialogues exploring the nature of contemporary science and its significance on our lives commissioned to UK scientist and media fellow Jim Al-Khalili with the assistance of local science communicators. In Azerbaijan the debate on “Our Future Energy” will be on January 2008.
FameLab – the international competition for science communicators which encourages young scientists to inspire and excite public imagination with a vision of science in the 21st century.
