English National Opera

ENO Baylis is the Education, Community and Outreach team at English National Opera, established in 1985 and named after Lillian Baylis.

ENO Baylis runs a wide-ranging programme of events and projects from its base at the ENO Works in Hackney, aimed at schools, community groups and individuals of all ages from a wide range of economic and cultural backgrounds.

The aims of the projects are to:

Encourage the development of creative skills, as well as enhance understanding and appreciation of opera

Explore opera and music theatre and their place in contemporary society

Widen access to the ENO, through long-term community partnerships and London-wide projects and programmes

ENO Baylis projects involve schools and teachers, community and disability groups, youth groups and young artists, working alongside professional directors, singers, composers and other artists, many of them members of ENO. The range of work is wide, varying from large scale productions - community operas, performance projects involving several schools - to one-off pre-performance workshops. Projects are tailored to meet the needs of participants and can be devised to support existing work or curriculum needs. ENO Baylis regularly commissions new work for youth, school and community groups, and encourages participants to attend performances at the London Coliseum.
