Literature Matters Lit department

Susanna Nicklin
Director Literature

Commissioning and co-ordinating British Council literature education and literary programmes; identifying UK and Commonwealth writers to take part in programmes and seminars; Director, Cambridge Seminar; liaison with UK trade publishing organisations; commissioning of key literature publications (including New Writing) and information products; departmental management.

Region: China and Hong Kong and Regional Arts Co-ordinator for Central and South Asia.

Jonathan Barker
Assistant Director Literature

Developing literature strategies and plans with British Council offices; providing professional advice, guidance and support to British Council offices on the identification of UK writers and critics to take part in literature programmes in the Americas, some Western European countries, Japan, Australia and New Zealand; liaison with UK literature constituency; visitors' programmes; management of Literature Programme Team; particular responsibility for contemporary poetry.

Regions: West Europe and North America (WENA) and Regional Arts Co-ordinator for North and Central Europe (NACE).

Suzanne Joinson
Literature Programme Manager

Suzanne provides advice on literature tours and live literature events in South East Europe, Russia, Middle East, Near East North Africa and Iran, including seminars, conferences, tours, creative writing workshops and residencies; identifying UK writers for projects and seminars in North Africa and the Middle East; developing reader centred programmes and overall responsibility for translation projects.

Regions: Russia and South East Europe and Regional Arts Co-ordinator for Near East and North Africa (NENA).

Kate Joyce
Literature Programme Manager

Kate provides advice on literature programmes including seminars, conferences, tours, creative writing workshops and residencies in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Latin America ; project manager of the anthology published by Granta, and the New Writing website; project manager of the Crossing Borders programme and website; identifying and liaising with UK partners for international literature work; developing creative writing projects; developing literature festivals policy; liaising with UK publishers over promotional and publicity material for events overseas.

Regions: Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, Central South Asia and India and Sri Lanka.

Sinead Russell
Literature Programme Manager

Sinead provides advice on literature tours and live literature events for East Asia and Northern, Central and Eastern Europe including seminars, conferences, tours, creative writing workshops and residencies; with particular focus on the Literature/Education sector.

Regions: East Asia and North, Central and Eastern Europe.

Juliet Wragge-Morely
Web and Information Manager

Web management and development for the Literature and Film websites in the areas of reader development, creative writing, literature translation, film and literature portals and project specific sites; information publications including bibliographies and directories; information and advice to UK and overseas offices; current awareness services including e-newsletters; literature and film collection management.

Jenny Holliday
Management Assistant

Jenny provides management support to the literature department and co-ordinates the British Council presence at the London Book Fair.

Alison Reid
Assistant Programme Manager

Alison works with Sinead Russell and Suzanne Joinson, on projects in education and video-conferencing and projects in the Russian region.

Adrienne Doyard
Assistant Programme Manager

Adrienne provides administrative support with projects to Sinead Russell and Suzanne Joinson.

Lottie Oram
Assistant Programme Manager

Lottie provides administrative support with projects to Kate Joyce and Jonathan Barker.

Kristina Hedderly
Web and Information Officer

Kristina maintains, promotes and develops the Department's web, IT, information work and resources. Co-ordinating the online reading groups 'twinning' project and author online chats on www.encompassculture.com. Kristina also produces the departmental e-zine .

Sophie Goodwin
Web and Information Officer

Sophie maintains, promotes and develops the Department's web, IT, information work and resources. Sophie is editor of the Literature Department's New Writing, Literary Tranlsation and Crossing Borders websites. She assists with online projects including Literary Translation weblogs and bibliographies.
