OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS

Hornby Educational Trust Scholarship

The Hornby Educational Trust was established in 1968 and promotes English studies, particularly the teaching of English as a second or foreign language. It is funded from the royalties on OUP dictionaries and textbooks assigned by the late Mr A.S. Hornby. The Trust finances long-term scholarships in the UK; regional schools for teacher and trainer development; projects by Hornby alumni to the benefit of their institution, community, region or country; and bursaries to enable overseas teachers to attend AS Hornby/British Council Seminars in the UK.

YOU WILL FIND BELOW INFORMATION ON 2008 HORNBY SCHOLARSHIPS.

Long Term Scholarships are open only for full-time UK-based Diploma or Masters courses in ELT or in related areas such as Marketing ELT or Publishing in ELT, provided these courses are offered by the participating universities: University of Lancaster; University of Leeds; The College of St Mark and St John, Plymouth; University of Brighton; and University of Warwick .

Applicants are invited to express and explain their preference to study at one of these universities. However, we cannot guarantee that you will be placed at your first choice university.

You should not communicate with or apply directly to the UK universities, other than to ask for information on courses.

Applicants must be resident in Argentina and must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the English language to be able to follow their chosen course of study or research.

We are looking for professionals who can make a mark in English language teaching, who will initiate development and reform programmes and who will act as an inspiration to their colleagues within and outside the profession. There is no age limit, but we seek candidates who will be able to make best use of this opportunity and apply what they have learned back in Argentina.  The successful candidates must agree to return to Argentina at the end of their period of study.

The scholarships cover all costs: tuition fees, a monthly stipend for accommodation and living expenses, special allowances and return air fare. It is most unlikely that requests for extensions to an award will be approved.
