ARTISTIC POLICY
Shobana Jeyasingh’s choreography explores ideas of home, boundaries, territories, belonging, leave taking and new beginnings. As a dance maker who has experienced migration, her work is inspired by the coexistence of different personal and historical territories within the make-up of one individual. The company is renowned for commissioning new music from eminent composers such as Michael Nyman, Kevin Volans and Django Bates. 2008 is the company’s 20th anniversary.

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
Faultline (2007) Multi-lingual movement, film and a powerful score evokes the current tensions of British Asian youth. Imagery is inspired by the mix of languages and slang in Gautam Malkani’s book Londonstani. (30 mins, 7 on stage, 11 on the road.)

Exit no Exit (2006) The anticipation of entrances and impossibility of easy exits propel the characters in this dramatic piece where a woman in a cocktail dress plays out her own story. (30 mins, 7 on stage, 11 on the road.)

FUTURE PRODUCTIONS
The Dancers’ Cut A small-scale retrospective to celebrate the company’s 20th anniversary in 2008. Four dancers and a film-maker look back at the best work from recent years. (75 mins, 4 on stage, 5–6 on the road.)

City:zen (2008) Explores the extremes of the urban environment, with composer Orlando Gough and lighting designer Shizuka Hariu. (30 mins, 7 on stage, 11 on the road.)

WRAP-AROUND
The company has a strong education and outreach programme that includes masterclasses, workshops for ages 4–18, vocational dance programmes, community work with refugees and elders, pre- and post-show talks and lecture-demonstrations.
