A major solo presentation, the exhibition will feature recent video and sculpture by acclaimed British artist Mark Wallinger.
Shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1995, Wallinger represented Britain at the 49th Venice Biennale in 2001. His past work has utilised painting, sculpture video, sound and installation, whilst examining socio-political themes such as British national identity and its underpinning class structure, the culture of horseracing, and the politics of representation. In the late 1990’s, the focus of Wallinger’s work shifted to a contemplative enquiry into religious and spiritual belief, most notably with his sublime contribution to the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square, London; Ecce Homo (1999).
Mark Wallinger was born in Essex in 1959. He studied at Chelsea School of Art and Goldsmith’s College, London. His numerous international solo exhibitions include Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin, Museo Carrillo Gil, Mexico City, The Wolfsonian, Florida and the Städische Galerieim Lenbachhaus, Munich. His work has been included in numerous influential group shows around the world, including Contemporary Art in the Traditional Museum at the Russian Museum, St. Petersburg (2003), Seeing Salvation, National Gallery, London (2000) and Sensation, Royal Academy of Arts, London, touring to Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (1997). He was DAAD Berlin Artist In Residence in 2001. Mark Wallinger lives and works in London.
