How do I stay safe online?

Practice safe computing to protect yourself and contribute to a safer computing environment for everyone.

Use virus protection and spyware protection software and set it to update automatically.
Set your computer to update security patches automatically.
Install a personal firewall.
Back up your files. See Disk Space and PASS for more information about ITS backup services. You can also use CDs or additional hard drives which can be purchased from the Computer Store.

Know the difference between legal and illegal copying. Learn copyright fundamentals, and use a legal music service such as Ruckus or iTunes. Learn how to avoid plagiarism.

Make sure that you understand your responsibilities with regard to your Access Account, policies, guidelines, and laws. See Use Technology Wisely for tips.
