The Assistant Director (AD), is a full-time professional with a Master's Degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related area and is responsible for the operational and educational functions in each area. The AD office is located in the west wing of the first floor of Scott Hall. The Assistant Director reports to the Associate Director of Residence Life and works closely with support, professional, and administrative office staff who's offices are also located in the west wing of first floor Scott Hall. Your AD is not only concerned about you and your needs, but also concerned about your RD, RA and all students in your area. The AD has supervisory responsibility of 4-5 RDs,, 35-40 RAs, and approximately 2200 residents. The Upper Campus AD also supervises the Madison Center. For this reason, if your AD is not available to help you immediately, please try to understand that he/she will try to see you as soon as possible.
The Resident Director (RD) is a full-time professional. RDs supervise the halls based on whether they are in Lower Campus or Upper Campus. Lower Campus consists of the Academic Residential Community Leatherwood, Scott, and Walker which each have an RD. Upper Campus consists of The Hill(Reynolds, Robertson, Buchanan), Central Drive Hall, Harrill and Albright/Benton which each also have an RD. The RDs manage educational, administrative, programming, and some judicial functions. They supervise 8-17 RAs in their buildings and 400-800 Residents. They maintain an office and apartment in the building they oversee.
The Assistant Resident Director (ARD) is a para professional who typically is a para-professional who has had previous experience as a Resident Assistant. He/she is very familiar with students needs and concerns in a community living environment. The ARD is a graduate student who is directly responsible to the Resident Director and works closely with the RAs to assist you in any way he/she can to make your total experience here at Western an enjoyable one. The ARD resides in an apartment in your residence hall.
Resident Assistants (RAs), are probably the most visible members of our Residential Living staff. Since the RA lives directly on the floor with the residents, he/she is attuned to particular resident interests, needs, and problems. RA's are trained to help with most situations that arise on the floor - adjustments to college life, personal, academic, maintenance problems, etc. Making you and your hall mates aware of and sensitive to each other's rights requires your RA to be a diplomat. Mutual respect and consideration is necessary on any hall, but it is something which everyone must continually work toward. Your RA can help plan different types of programs and activities and also serves as an informational resource about the campus and the residence life program. Most of all -- your RA is a student, a person, and a friend!
The Village staff consists of 1 House Manager per organization who aere supervised by Greek Assitant Resident Directors (GARD) the GARDs report to the Assitatnt Director for Greek Life and StudentOrganization who has an apartment in the Village Common Building.Western Carolina University
