The College of Engineering has a three-tier advising system to assist students with courses, curricula, and career development. Every student in the college can call on:
- Their faculty advisor: Most students meet with their faculty advisor at least once each semester. Faculty advisors are helpful for routine course selection, deeper knowledge about the areas of concentration within their departments, and advice about developing as a professional.
- Their department advising office: Each department has an office for undergraduate student advising, and a departmental Chief Advisor. Departmental offices can help with registration in departmental courses, questions about departmental degree requirements, academic difficulties, and transfer into or out of the department.
- The college advising office: Located in 206 Engineering Hall, the Undergraduate Programs Office provides walk-in advising 8:30 am to 4:30 pm every day of the semester. “Approval by a dean” is provided here, along with the final word on degree requirements, transfers between colleges and departments, and credit for transfer courses. The deans in 206 can also be very helpful to students who are experiencing academic and/or personal difficulties.
