Final results of the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries' work on the statewide seismic needs assessment of Oregon education and emergency services buildings, as directed by the 73rd Legislative Assembly (Senate Bill 2, 2005).
George Priest and Rob Witter of DOGAMI are now leading a technical team of researchers and scientists in this project using the latest advances in mapping technology (LIDAR), computer technology and computer modeling. Mapping at Cannon Beach is serving as the pilot project for this effort. This new scenario-based inundation research mapping expresses the variability of what could be expected from a tsunami impact on the Oregon coast in the event of a Cascadia subduction zone earthquake or a distant tsunami-generating earthquake.
In 2007 the Oregon 74th Legislative Assembly directed DOGAMI to extend LIDAR collection efforts throughout the state in order to provide high-quality LIDAR coverage for the entire state. To achieve this goal DOGAMI has formed the Oregon LIDAR Consortium (OLC), which will develop cooperative agreements for the collection of high-quality LIDAR that benefits the public at large, the business community, and agencies at all levels of government.

IMS-25 - Tsunami Hazard Map of the Florence-Siuslaw River Area, Lane County, Oregon, by G. R. Priest, A. Chawla, and J. C. Allan, may be viewed as a guide for evacuation and emergency response planning in the event of an earthquake and tsunami. The map shows how three different tsunamis generated by an offshore earthquake might affect the area.
