R. Whit Curry, Jr. M.D., Professor & Chairman

Welcome to the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine (CHFM) at the University of Florida College of Medicine. CHFM is committed to providing an outstanding academic environment for education, research, and clinical practice in Family Medicine. Our mission is to educate medical students in Family Medicine; train Family Medicine residents; foster research and discovery in Primary Care; deliver quality clinical services to all segments of the community; and provide continuing education to practicing Family Medicine physicians.

R. Whit Curry, Jr., M.D.
Our 61 faculty and fellows teach medical students in all years of the Medical School Curriculum and our 24 Family Medicine residents. We have faculty participating in a variety of clinical trials and research. Our clinical enterprise cares for over 78,000 outpatient visits and approximately 35,000 inpatient visits.

CHFM has nine programs: Medical Education, Research and Grants, Clinical Trials, Rural Health, the UF Student Health Care Center, the Family Medicine Residency Program, Tacachale Center of Excellence, and the program in Bioethics, Law, and Medical Professionalism. In conjunction with the Internal Medicine Department we provide hospitalist care in both Shands UF and Shands Lakeshore hospitals.

Our family medicine centers offer a full range of healthcare services to the community. Clinical sites in Gainesville are located at Hampton Oaks, Haile Plantation, Fourth Avenue, and Eastside Community Practice. We also have rural medical offices in Old Town, and two in Lake City. From immunizations for children, to screenings and physical exams, and treatment of a wide variety of health problems, you will find a doctor you can count on for the care you need. In addition to our ambulatory care clinics, our in-patient services at Shands at UF and Shands at Lake Shore remain a vibrant learning experience for our family medicine residents and medical students.

We invite you to browse through our site to learn more about our Department and programs, and to visit the associated web pages and links. We welcome your questions and comments.
