Clemson University has purchased the clearTXT Ubiquity Message Manager to assist in alerting the Clemson campus of emergency situations that affect the campus. The Ubiquity Message Manager also has a Blackboard component that allows you to receive course- and workgroup-related messages by email and text message.
All Clemson University faculty, staff, and student email addresses automatically have access to clearTXT Ubiquity Message Manager.

Current Known Issues with Ubiquity Message Manager
- Safari browser may not work as expected - you may experience error messages such as "Undefined value". If this happens, try using another browser, such as Firefox or Opera.
- Cookies must be enabled for both clemson.edu and cleartxt.com. See instructions below (" Before Logging In to Ubiquity Message Manager").
Before Logging In to Ubiquity Message Manager
To correctly set up your account options within Ubiquity Message Manager, first make sure your browser is set to allow cookies. Cookies are small bits of information that allow your Blackboard information and clearTXT information to work together seamlessly. To enable cookies:
- In Internet Explorer:
- Press Alt-T or click Tools, and select "Internet Options".
- Click the Privacy tab, then the Sites button.
- In the "Address of website" textbox, type in clemson.edu and click the Allow button.
- In the "Address of website" textbox, type in cleartxt.com and click the Allow button.
- Click OK, then OK again.
- In Mozilla Firefox:
- Click Tools, and select "Options".
- Click the Privacy tab, and in the Cookies section click the "Exceptions..." button.
- In the "Address of web site" textbox, type in clemson.edu and click the Allow button.
- In the "Address of web site" textbox, type in cleartxt.com and click the Allow button.
- Click Close, then OK.
- In Opera:
- Click Tools, then Advanced, and select "Cookies".
- Click the "Add..." button.
- On the General tab, type clemson.edu. Then click the Cookies tab and make sure "Accept cookies" is set. Click OK.
- Click the "Add..." button again.
- On the General tab, type cleartxt.com. Then click the Cookies tab and make sure "Accept cookies" is set. Click OK.
- Click Close.
PLEASE NOTE: The URL for clearTXT is cleartxt.com, NOT cleartext.com (note the missing "e" in the "correct" URL).
Logging in to Ubiquity Message Manager
The easiest way to access the Ubiquity Message Manager is to log in to Blackboard at http://bb.clemson.edu. Once you are logged in to Blackboard, you will see a "CU Applications and Web Sites" box on the MyCLEmson tab. Click the Ubiquity Message Manager (clearTXT) link.
In the CU Applications and Web Sites module in Blackboard, click the Ubiquity Message Manager (clearTXT) link.
You can also log in to Ubiquity Message Manager by going to http://clemson.cleartxt.com. To log in to this page, you must use your Clemson email address (in the format userid@clemson.edu) and your clearTXT password -- not your Clemson password. If you do not know or remember your clearTXT password, there is a link below the password box to reset your clearTXT password.

Setting Your Preferences
Once you are logged in to Ubiquity Message Manager, if you have not provided a valid mobile phone number or carrier, or have not subscribed to the Clemson University Broadcast channel, you will see a message box indicating what steps are incomplete. You can follow any links within the message box to set your preferences, or you can click the tabs across the top of the clearTXT window to navigate through the parts of the Ubiquity Message Manager.

Entering Your Mobile Phone Number and Carrier
To enter your mobile phone number and carrier, you can click the Settings tab within the Ubiquity Message Manager window.
In the Personal Settings area, you can enter your contact information - specifically, your mobile phone and carrier. An example for a phone number of (864) 555-1234 on AT&T would be:

Once you have entered your phone number and carrier, click the Save Changes button.
Selecting the Clemson University Broadcast Channel
All emergency messages will be sent out via the Clemson University Broadcast channel. To ensure you have your messaging preferences set up correctly to receive these messages on your preferred device(s), click on the Channels tab within the Ubiquity Message Manager window, then click the Groups link on the left side of the page. When you click the Groups link, the bottom of the page will now contain a "Groups to which you subscribe" section, and within this section is the "Clemson University Broadcast" section. Click the "More options [+]" link, and choose your preferences (email and/or text message). Once you have made your choices, click the Save Changes button.
On the Channels page, select Groups, then More Options next to Clemson University Broadcast, then make your choices and click Save Changes.
