Welcome to Brewer-Porch Children’s Center Web Site. BPCC is proud to be part of the University of Alabama, college of Arts and Sciences. We are a center that strives for excellence in our treatment and education programming. Brewer-Porch operates 6 programs that serve children and adolescents from the ages of 3 to 21 depending on the program. We have 3 out-patient programs and three residential programs. Each program operates on an interdisciplinary treatment team approach. Each program receives input from numerous disciplines to ensure that all aspects of the clients care are represented. Our treatment teams are made up of Counselors, Social workers, Psychologist, Teachers, Nutritionist, Nurses and Psychiatrist as well as the legal guardian the child or adolescent.
Our Intensive Residential Treatment Program (IRT) serves children and Adolescents between the ages of 6 and 18. Children and Adolescents must have a DSM 1V TR Axis 1 diagnosis ranging between 290 and 316 and a full scale IQ score of 65 or above. We take referrals statewide from the Department of Human Resources, County Child Services Multi-needs Teams or through other private referrals. Length of stay typically ranges between 6 months and 2 years. Residents are offered a full array of services to include nutritional, physical fitness, educational, psychiatric and social.
Our Short Term Treatment and Evaluation Program (STTEP) is a residential program which serves children between the ages of 6 and 12. Children are referred to this program through a variety of sources state wide to include the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, The Department of Human Resources, School Systems, County Child Services Multi-needs Teams and Private referrals. The primary purpose of the program is diagnosing, evaluating and stabilizing these Children and making recommendations for follow-up care. The typical length of stay ranges between 1 and 3 months.
Our Therapeutic Foster Care Program (TFC) is a foster care program that serves children and adolescents ages 6 to 21 who have emotional and or behavioral problems that are in the custody of the State Department of Human Resources. The program recruits, gives on-going training to and licenses families and homes that are willing to work with children and adolescents who have had difficult backgrounds. The program provides trained case specialist to go into the homes, schools and other settings to ensure that the needs of the children and adolescents are being met nutritionally, physically psychologically and socially.
Our Community Autism Intervention Program (CAIP) is an outpatient program that serves children ages 3-12 who have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. Intensive services are provided in 2 pre-school classrooms and 1 elementary classroom on the BPCC campus. We also provide trained Mental Health Workers to work one on one with children in their public school setting within the city and county schools of Tuscaloosa County. Further this program offers training state wide to Parents, Teachers and other Professionals related to autism intervention techniques. Referrals are made through Tuscaloosa City or County Boards of Special Education.
Our Outpatient Day Treatment Program (ODT) serves children ages 6-12 who live in Tuscaloosa County. We provide 2 City and 2 County classrooms located on the BPCC Campus. This program is a joint effort between BPCC and Tuscaloosa City and County school systems to provide intensive services for these children who have not been able to succeed academically due to either behavioral, emotional or psychiatric reasons. We offer a classroom setting with no more than eight students per class staffed each with a certified special education teacher and two behavioral aids. Educational, psychiatric and therapeutic services are offered to each child. Referrals are made through the Tuscaloosa City or County Boards of Special Education.
Our Adolescent Adaptive Skills Training Program (AASTP) serves children and Adolescents ages 12-18 who live in Tuscaloosa County. We provide 1 City and 1 County classroom located on the BPCC Campus. This program is a joint effort between BPCC and Tuscaloosa County and City School systems to provide intensive services for these Children and Adolescents who have not been able to succeed academically due to either behavioral, emotional or psychiatric reasons. We offer a classroom setting with no more than 8 students per class staffed each with a certified special education teacher and 2 behavioral aids. Educational, Psychiatric and therapeutic services are offered to each Child and Adolescent. Referrals are made through the Tuscaloosa City or County Boards of Special Education.
