The Outpatient Day Treatment Program serves elementary school aged children zoned for Tuscaloosa City or Tuscaloosa County Schools. The Outpatient Day Treatment Program provides services for four classrooms of 8 children for a maximum of 32 children. Children are typically referred due to emotional and behavioral needs that require both more supervision and more intensive therapeutic services than available in a regular school setting.
Children are provided with extensive instructional and therapeutic services within the context of a therapeutic milieu, to develop self-control, coping skills, social skills, and other skills to enable them to function more adaptively within the regular school setting and within the community.
The length of stay is typically one academic school year, but is determined in consultation with family and with the referring school personnel. The referral process begins at the school level. The child’s elementary school will typically complete the referral which is then approved by the Special Education Coordinator before being sent to Brewer-Porch.
