On Sunday, May 20, 2012 from 6am to 10am, the Voyager production servers will be offline while they are migrated to the new CARLI Data Center. This event will affect:
- the I-Share union catalog
- all local I-Share library catalogs (VuFind and WebVoyage)
- all Voyager Staff Clients
The backlog of record updates to the I-Share union catalog were loaded early this morning. The VuFindUC is up-to-date again.
The bibliographic data exports from Voyager to the I-Share union catalog in VuFind have failed the last two nights. Update files for 5/15 and 5/16 will be processed tonight, along with today’s transactions.
We are down to just the Voyager and Oracle servers. This Sunday, May 20th between 6AM and 10AM we will take Voyager down in Chicago and bring up a copy in Urbana. A DNS change will point the name voyager.carli.illinois.edu to the IP address of the new server and most users will not notice the change. However, a few campus firewall administrators may not allow connections to our new 192.17.55.128/25 network subnet and we will need to work with them after the migration. Any firewall restrictions should only affect Voyager Staff Clients since WebVoyage and VuFind web traffic are already routed through the new data center via load-balancers.
The following weekend (Memorial Day weekend), we plan to migrate the Oracle databases to the new data center. This move is more complicated because we plan to also migrate from the Solaris operating system to Linux. We don’t have the exact downtime pinned down yet, but assume Voyager/WebVoyage/VuFind will be offline all day Saturday, May 26th and Sunday, May 27th.
After the Oracle migration, the Reports server will be static a few days. No updates will be applied until we build a new Linux Reporting server.

Planned maintenance events that require CARLI servers to be offline, will, whenever possible, be performed between the hours of midnight and 10am on Sunday, and these events will be announced to libraries as far in advance as possible.
