The University of Illinois Office of Business and Financial Services is seeking qualified candidates for two Visiting Grants and Contracts Specialist positions in the Grants and Contracts Office. The Grants and Contracts Office is responsible for the administration, compliance, and documentation of integrated sponsored programs for the Urbana-Champaign campus of the University of Illinois. The Grants and Contracts Specialist will perform post-award administrative duties related to sponsored projects with special emphasis on maintaining the data necessary for compliance with institutional policies and procedures, state and/or federal laws, and contractual obligations. This position also assists with preparation of financial reports and performs a variety of other duties related to integrating University policies with applicable sponsor policies and procedures. Other duties and responsibilities include:
Participate in establishing post-award policies for sponsored projects by identifying areas where policies need to be developed.
Stay informed about sponsored project terms and conditions and University policies and procedures as they relate to establishment/maintenance of sponsored project accounts.
Interpret and provide advice on University policies and sponsor regulations to departmental staff involved in grants and contracts administration.
In absence of supervisor, analyze sponsored project cash disbursements and balances on a daily basis in order to determine the cash needs of the University within the balances permitted under sponsors’ guidelines.
Pre-audit and post audit routine transactions of restricted and unallowable cost categories for propriety, allocability, correctness, and reasonableness based upon detailed review of governing sponsor policies and procedures.
Participate in preparation of interim and final reports (financial, property, patent, etc.) for timely transmission to sponsors. This includes analyzing and summarizing sponsored project data and information in order to complete the reports.
Participate in the preparation of periodic sponsor billings and the resolution of unpaid or past due accounts receivable balances.
Candidates must posses a bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, finance or general business administration, and a minimum of two years experience in a position requiring utilization of financial and administrative skills in a complex business, academic or government environment, preferably at an institution of higher education. Knowledge of sponsored project post-award administration within an academic environment and an understanding of University business procedures are highly desirable. Proficiency using Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook) and Internet Explorer needed.
All positions are full-time, 12-month Academic Professional positions. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
